BARBIE'S Best Friend

For my still life final I chose to do 5 BARBIE's from 5 different decades and five cocktails that went with the most popular Barbie from each decade. I wanted to show Barbie not as the little plastic doll that was out best friend growing up but as a woman that matured with us over the years. She's the girl you want to go to the bars with and gossip with and shop with. And, apparently, she's an alcoholic!

Images:
1. Title page with BARBIE
2. 1959 - Debut Barbie, Classic Gin Martini
3. 1967 - Mod Barbie, Ladies Lemon Drop
4. 1971 - Malibu Barbie, Pink Sand Pina Colada
5. 1983 - Dream Date Barbie, Fresh Rose Champagne
6. 1999 - Coca Cola Barbie, Jazzy Jack & Coke

*** These images were shot for a still life class, they are not for sale and I am making NO money off of these -- BARBIE is a product of Mattel.

Sammy & Ian

Marin Headlands Trip

for a class i had to go to the Machine Gun Pits in the Marin Headlands, overlooking the Bay. I don't EVER shoot landscapes or macro or nature, EVER, but this trip was an eye opening, refreshing experience. it was nice to get out of the city, to a new environment, and to really see things differently. there was no hair or makeup to do, no skin to retouch or light perfectly. there was a beautiful haze of fog so the light was perfect and angelic. most of these shots i wasn't even looking through the view finder. i'd hold the camera low to the base/ground the details were on and hope that my 100-300mm lens would magically focus on the right spot ... (and it did, tip: gotta give you equipment a little love). whether or not these images will be used remains to be seen, but for now, it was the perfect little get away.

Daria (Precious Little) has such an insane and unique and intense look so i wanted to put her into an environment and scenario that would really compliment her strong features. she's got short blond pixie hair but had this black wig and i thought it'd be fun to make her look totally different -- most people don't recognize it's her in these images bc of the wig. so i shot her in my house and the images with the maroon wall paper were composited to help give it a darker, spicier look. the played the 1920s temptress beautifully.
